0845 non geographical numbers: Ofcom have committed to the review because 0845 numbers have previously been labelled ‘local rate’ but now standard local rate calls have come down in price. Currently callers are paying up to 5ppm on 0845 numbers.
0871: The advantages of using 0871 numbers is that there is a revenue stream available at a level higher then the 0870 revenue share and it is possible to fund advanced services. There are no delivery charges and when the PPP regulations comes into effect consumer confidence will increase in the range as advertising becomes clearer.
0844: 0844 Numbers are the new and realistic 0845 replacement, bearing in mind that 0845 numbers are due to be reviewed by Ofcom within the next 18months. The 0844 range is less costly to the business than using a freephone number and as the calls are charged at a fixed price, it is much less likely that Ofcom will impose any future regulatory changes to this range. The range has also proven popular for 0870 number migration as there is a low rate call cost to callers – only 5ppm – and the range also allows for a revenue stream.
